A Preview from the Photoshoot

Before leaving Philadelphia, my friend and photographer extraordinaire, Jessica Notargiacomo, collaborated with me on a last east coast photoshoot.  With the hard work of New York based make-up artist, Shaun Gibson, fabulous hair by James, and models Deirdre and Tori, the day was a fantastic success!  Above and below are a couple of shots from the day, more to follow soon.

Black and White

In this lovely little ensemble, I combined clean lines with high-contrast, modern floral prints to create a classic look that’s effortlessly beautiful and utterly wearable. The black on white cotton top buttons at the back, creating a deep v-neck that turns into a boat-neck at the front. Fully lined, fitted through the waist, and featuring a lightly curving hem around the hips, this top truly accentuates the feminine form.

Contrasting with the simple lines of the shirt, the skirt falls in playful, assymmetric pleats and ruffles with white on black floral cotton over a grey and white striped underskirt.

Shorts

The perfect pair of shorts is a summer necessity that can be elusive.  These combine all the qualities one looks for in that perfect pair; great fit, fabric, and style.  One in lightweight grey wool suiting with a subtle plaid and the other in a icy blue/grey stretch cotton with barely there tiny polka dots, these shorts are extremely versatile.  And with a low rise waist and cropped to the knee, they are perfect for a day in the office or at the beach.  Click the thumbnails below for more detail.

Sheer Sunset Orange Shirt

This sheer yellow and orange short-sleeved shirt is super-light and adorable in yellow and orange floral cotton/rayon with striped cotton details. The gathered empire waist cinches with a bias cut striped belt and the bodice is lined with striped cotton. Translucent buttons fasten down the front and stripes accent the button placket. Wear it as a cover-up on the beach, pair it with a sweet skirt for a night out, no matter what you’re sure to make a splash in this!

A vision in white and satin …

Long fascinated with uniforms, I have created many ready to wear garments inspired by traditional uniforms or modes of dress. From soldiers and superheroes to robots and ninjas, a good uniform is rife with possibilities for inspiration and interpretation.

This elegant take on a nurse’s uniform is one of my favorite of these explorations. Created with both beauty and comfort in mind, the body of the dress is a soft white cotton jersey which conforms to the curves of the wearer. At the bust, hand-pleated champagne satin with raw edges adds art-deco sophistication with architectural lines and a modern twist with organic edges. Red satin ribbon underlines the bust with hand-tacked bows at the sides. The back of the dress gathers just below the hips with a satin red cross and ribbon detail, creating a smooth silhouette from the front and soft, flirtatious ripples of white along the asymmetrical hem at the back of the dress.

A vision in white and satin, she is certainly the belle of the nurses ball!

Patterns and Prints: Custom Ties

The thing I love about creating custom ties is finding just the right print, pattern, or combination of materials to construct a piece that is as unique as the wearer.  Above, the black and white cotton circuitboard tie complements a man who is stylish and confident yet down to earth and not afraid to show his nerdy side.  Below left, the abstract geometric print silk in warm earth tones and cool pastels denote a more soft-spoken individual with a gentle, creative personality.  On the right is a tie not for the faint of heart, the wearer of this multi-layered tie is a rockstar at heart, bold and passionate.  Created from layers of striped black  chiffon, satin ribbon, and solid red silk, the patterns in this tie shift and change in response to light, making it a perfect piece to wear under the glare of stage lights.

Stripes and such for summer

Here’s a cute little shirt and skirt ensemble that’s perfect for summer. The shirt is made of lightweight coral stretch-cotton with blue and white striped spandex, and chocolate brown spandex waistband and ties. The drape of the skirt makes it light and airy, in blue and white striped spandex with a chocolate brown waistband.

FOR THOSE HOT SUMMER DAYS

A lovely, little strapless summer dress in slate blue cotton, yellow/orange print poly/cotton, and slate mesh underskirt. Ruching in the back helps it stay up, and the pleats, A-line shape, and light airy fabrics keep it breezy even on these hot and humid days. This is a perfect dress to wear for a day at the beach or a lazy afternoon picnicking in the park with the Lunch Monsters.

YELLOW PILOT DRESS

This dress was inspired by an outfit worn by Corinne Clery in the 1979 James Bond film, Moonraker. It is made of bright yellow and white jersey with white on white pleated polka dot organza at the hem and yellow/white button detail at the shoulders.

BLUE JERSEY DRESS

It’s all about the play of textures in this kimono-inspired dress, with the smooth liquidity of the chocolate brown satin contrasting the matte, ribbed blue jersey.

Blue Kimono Dress #2

The second in the “Galactic Geisha” series this one of a kind dress pairs vibrant aqua bodice and skirt with a black pinstriped waistband and black collar. The hem is short and assymetrical to highlight a stellar pair of legs, either daring and bare or bold in contrasting tights.
